The Secretary of the Assyrian Democratic Party to KDP.info

’What was said about the reconstruction of the war-affected areas was nothing more than election propaganda, and the fate of a large number of Christian citizens kidnapped by ISIS is still unknown" said the secretary of the Assyrian Democratic Party, who expressed his displeasure at Baghdad's promises to rebuild the war-affected areas against ISIS. In a statement to KDP Info, Yonadam Kanna, the Secretary of the Party said ‘’from the beginning, we did not believe in the Kuwait conference last year to reconstruct the areas affected by the war against ISIS. We do not think it will produce anything, because the areas that were damaged and destroyed by the terrorist organisation ISIS need financial allocations and the Iraqi government did not reconstruct even one house, and even some international organizations and the United Nations have provided limited assistance to those areas for the reconstruction of some water projects and economic infrastructure’’ A number of donor countries have expressed willingness and readiness to help Iraq rebuild the devastated and war-affected areas. The Iraqi government has made allocations for the reconstruction projects in these areas in the 2018 budget, but as Mr. Kanna highlights,, all of those promises made for the reconstruction of those areas and the conferences that were held were came to nothing and they were only election propaganda. ‘’So we have no confidence in the Iraqi government and its promises", he said. During the fall of the city of Mosul and the Governorate of Nineveh by ISIS, thousands of Kurdish citizens; Sunnis, Shiites, Shabaks, Yazidis and Christians captured by the terrorists, some of them were killed and the others were taken prisoner and the fate of hundreds of them is still unknown to this day. ‘’it is true that when ISIS attacked Mosul City Some Christian families were unable to escape and save themselves and they were taken as prisoners by ISIS, regrettably, no one knows their exact numbers. The Iraqi government was deficient in this respect. There was a difference in dealing with the Christians by ISIS. The treatment of the terrorists with the Yazidi Kurds, the followers of the Shiite sect were different’’ Added Mr Kanna.
