On Monday, July 30, 2018, Haider Al-Abadi, Prime Minister of the Iraqi federal government hosted The Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani in Baghdad. The two leaders spoke about bilateral relations between Erbil and Baghdad and the political situation in the country in general and other outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Federal Government of Iraq.
At the meeting both prime ministers reiterated the importance of cooperation and coordination in the face of the challenges that face the country and the next phase and moving towards forming the new Iraqi government in a way that meets the demands of the Iraqi people to improve economic conditions, reconstruction, services and job creation.
Prime Minister Barzani said that “We reiterated that we have to do our best to resolve all issues between Erbil and Baghdad based on the Iraqi constitution.”
During the meeting, which was attended by Dr. Fuad Hussein, Chief of Staff of the Office of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region general political situation in Iraq was highlighted. The two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining relations and continuation of dialogue to resolve issues between KRG and Federal Government peacefully. Discussion on coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army to provide security and fight terrorism was another part of the meeting.
