President Masoud Barzani received on Wednesday, 15 August 2018 in Salahadeen, Ambassador Douglas Silliman, the US Ambassador to Iraq and Consul General, Stephen Fagin, the US Consul General to Erbil. During the meeting the political situation in Iraq and the region, as well as the latest developments in the region and the world were discussed. The US Ambassador to Iraq presented to President Barzani, his country's strategy on regional developments, the latest war update against ISIS and assistance to displaced people and the Iraqi components, and noted the active role of President Barzani and the Regional government in protecting and sheltering the Iraqi displaced persons during the war against the terrorists.
During another focus of the meeting, the two sides exchanged views and perspectives on Iraq in the post-election phase, political equations in Iraq and efforts to form the new government.
President Barzani stressed that the main and important priority of the Kurdistan Region needs to be reflected in the programme of the future Iraqi government, and the commitment of all parties to the three principles, which include partnership in governance, legislative consensus and institutional balance, stressing that adherence to those three principles will address many problems in Iraq.
