President Masoud Barzani: We are not with postponing the elections for the Kurdistan Parliament

President Masoud Barzani supported the holding of the elections for the Kurdistan Parliament scheduled for the 30th of September next month, and called for doing whatever is necessary to ensure the integrity of the elections, pointing out that "this is a national and critical issue for all and there should be an end to the destruction and aggravation of   others."

"Our struggle against dictatorial regimes is not a war between the Arabs and the Kurds," Barzani said in a speech marking the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

"Despite all the shortcomings of the Iraqi parliamentary elections, we are faced with a new reality, an opportunity to address all the problems, fortunately the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Kurdistan Patriotic Union have reached a good deal to negotiate with Baghdad through a unified programme and delegation, hence I call upon on all Parties to join ranks, this is a national and critical issue for all, and we must put an end to the destruction and aggravation of others, because it is futile, I call upon (all the parties) to join KDP and PUK and to go to Baghdad together." Said the President.

"It is time for all the parties to undertake a self- revision and open a new page, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party extends the hands of brotherhood, cooperation and friendship to all, and together we can achieve a breakthrough. If we look closer, we find that all the great gains that have been made in the past, were made when we were together, and we have to take the lessons from this experience."

On the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region, President Masoud Barzani said that "everyone complains about this situation, reforms should be undertaken and major steps need to be taken in this context, but internal elections must be held and a new and strong government should be formed, and we should all support them to end the existing shortcomings and start reforms."
