Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Brett McGurk, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS and his accompanying delegation.

They discussed the role of the Kurdistan Region and its participation in the Iraqi political process and the formation of the new government in Baghdad.

The two sides hoped that the recent attempts will lead to the formation, in a near future, of a new government that will take into account the interests of all Iraqi communities.

They also discussed the current political situation in the Kurdistan Region and  the preparations for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on 30 September.

Mr. McGurk welcomed the holding of the elections on time and hoped that the process will be successful.
