Hoshyar Siwaily, on October 10 2018, visited the Consulate General of the State of Kuwait in Erbil

Mr. Hoshyar Siwaily, Head of the Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, visited the Consulate General of Kuwait and was received by the Consul General of Kuwait Dr. Omar al-Kandari.

 At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Siwaily thanked Dr. Al-Kandari for receiving the KDP delegation and praised the deep-rooted historical relations between the State of Kuwait and the Kurdistan. He referred to the position of the late Mustafa Barzani against the former Iraqi leader, Abdul Karim Kassem, when he made allegations in the beginning of the 60s that Kuwait was part of Iraq. He also emphasized that the relationship between the State of Kuwait and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq is strong and built on confidence and shared interests while both peoples of Kurdistan and Kuwait shared enormous sufferingsas result of the aggressive and hostile policies and practices of Saddam Husain.

 

 For his part, Mr. al-Kandari thanked the visiting delegation and conveyed his congratulations on the victory of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in the legislative elections of the Kurdistan Region. He stressed that this victory is an effective step in improving the situation at all levels. During the meeting, Mr. Siwaily on behalf of the leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party paid tribute to the government and people of Kuwait towards the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, especially in recent years. The state of Kuwait provides humanitarian aid and assistance to displaced people and refugees who had left their cities and villages because of ISIS attacks

The Head of KDP-FRO emphasized that Kurdistan Region wants to resolve all the outstanding issues with the Federal Government through dialogue and understanding based on the commitment to the principles of partnership, consensus and balance which are enshrined in the Iraqi constitution. The two sides discussed the latest developments and ongoing efforts to form a new Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, the post-referendum and the political situation in Kurdistan and the future of relations with the Federal Government in Baghdad.

At the end of the meeting Mr. Siwaily emphasized the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s willingness and readiness to provide all the required assistance that the Consulate General might need in the future to make its mission in Kurdistan Region a success.
