Chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council Masrour Barzani’s meeting with EU Ambassador to Iraq

Chancellor Barzani received  European Union Ambassador to Iraq Ramon Blecua and discussed negotiations to form Iraqi and KRG governments.

On the recent parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, Chancellor Barzani said talks are underway for a strong government that is representative of the election results and responds to the needs of the Kurdistani peoples. On Baghdad, both officials had a lengthy, candid exchange about the unresolved Erbil-Baghdad disputes.

Chancellor Barzani reaffirmed support for Prime Minister-designate Adil Abdul Mahdi. He emphasized that the Kurdistan Region supports a government based on genuine partnership. Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution, he said, is key to settling differences. During the meeting Chancellor Barzani and Ambassador Blecua also discussed EU support for security sector reform in the Kurdistan Region.
