Liberal Democrats-D66 Party of the Netherlands visited Kurdistan Democratic Party Foreign Relations Office.

A delegation from the D66 Party of the Netherlands headed by Mr Lidwien Van Langen, the Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Netherland’s Parliament and a Board Member of the Party’s Department of International Cooperation visited the KDP-FRO and were greeted by Hoshyar Siwaily head of the Office and Office members. 

The delegation included many distinguished party members with diverse expertise and interests. 

During the meeting, Mr. Siwaily on behalf of the KDP and Kurdistan Region thanked the government and the people of the Netherlands for their support over the previous years and their notable assistance during the war against ISIS and their ongoing programs of assistance and development. Furthermore, the delegation briefed on the current issues concerning the Kurdistan Region and the challenges the People of Kurdistan faced over the past 4 years. Head of  KDP-FRO highlighted the past and current relations with Baghdad and the need for the implementation of the Federal Constitution by the Federal Government. 

The delegation’s main mission with their diverse interests and concerns was to make assessments on the available opportunities for investment and make recommendations to the Dutch government on areas of support to the Kurdistan Regional Government. 

The members of the delegation raised many important questions on the role of women and the policies and measures adopted by the government to strengthen their role in the government and the society. They also sought clarifications on our education system and other areas of social policy and development.

The issue of the Referendum for Kurdistan independence held on 25-9-2017 also it was another topic of the meeting. We clarified KDP’s position on the issue by regarding the decision to hold the referendum as a right and legal decision and the post-referendum negative developments were due to the unpatriotic position of a group within PUK and the unilateral mentality of succession of Iraqi Governments.  

At the end of the meeting both sides emphasized the importance of continues and strong relations between KDP and D66 aim to strengthen bilateral relations and work in the interest of our nations.
