Nechirvan Barzani receives Belgian Ambassador

Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Belgium’s Ambassador to Iraq and Jordan Hendrik Van de Velde and his accompanying delegation.

They discussed the recent Kurdistan Parliament elections, holding the Parliament’s first session and the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government.

Ambassador Van de Velde stressed the importance of the Kurdistan Region’s active participation in the political process in Baghdad. He expressed hope that the new Iraqi government would provide basic services to all communities and move toward resolving differences with the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani briefed the delegation on meetings among Kurdistan’s political parties to form the new KRG cabinet. He also expressed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness for dialogue with Baghdad to settle outstanding issues.

The situation of displaced persons, their return to their places of origin and the provision of necessary services for them were also discussed.
