Robert Paladino, the General Consul of the United States of America, and a delegation of his companions visited the Foreign Relations Office and were welcomed by Hoshyar Siwaily, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Bureau.
Mr. Paladino expressed his sympathy on behalf of his country to the people of Kurdistan and the families of the martyrs from the recent weeks. He reiterated that his country would continue to cooperate with the military and the Kurdistan Peshmerga.
During the meeting, the latest events in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were discussed. Mr. Siwaily told the guest delegation that after the Iraqi parliamentary election process, all parties have began negotiations on forming the next cabinet of the federal government, and for this purpose, the discussions are continuing and we hope that all Iraqi political parties will work together to serve the Iraqi people together. The KDP is not concerned about the position as much as the policy of the next cabinet, which is intended to serve the Iraqi people and to make Iraq sovereign again. So it can make its own decisions, policies and return to the position of the state.
Military and intelligence cooperation between the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi army and the allies were part of the discussions. The two sides agreed to end and weaken terrorists and anti-state forces, and that cooperation should be intensified and that full attention should be paid to protecting the lives of citizens and their forces. To fill the gaps in Kurdistani areas outside the region's administration, it is important to fill them according to the constitution and prevent terrorists from becoming unstable, killing and destroying these areas.
The situation in the region and the changes were discussed, and the US Consul General reaffirmed that his country would remain in the region and that its support for its allies would continue. The latest stage of the withdrawal of US combat troops has been discussed as part of the US-Iraq strategic agreement, but the US will continue to cooperate politically, economically, militarily, diplomatically and socially with the Iraqi people.
Mr. Siwaily thanked the people and government of the United States for their continued support and cooperation with the Kurdish people since 1991, stressing their cooperation works to protect the interests of both sides.
