Following a formal invitation by the German Christian Democratic Union to attend their 31st annual conference, a KDP delegation headed by Hoshyar Siwaily, the Party’s Head of Foreign Relations attended the Conference in Hamburg on December 6-8 2018. The Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Berlin, Dilshad Barzani also attended. This year’s conference which was attended by 1001 delegates of the party was crucial for the party and the country as the Leader and Chancellor Angela Merkel had announced earlier that she would step down from the leadership. Chancellor Merkel handed over the torch to her successor Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. Chancellor Merkel and her government played an important role during the fight against the Islamic State thorough their military assistance to the Peshmerga Forces. Germany as a member state of EU and within the EU apparatus is one of the leading contributors to the war efforts against terrorism and extremism. We expect that CDU under the new leadership will continue to strengthen ties with KDP and support the Kurdistan Regional Government as their cooperation is in the best interest of the People of Germany and Kurdistan Region.
