Prime Ninister Nechirvan Barzani received U.S. Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry and his accompanying delegation.
Secretary Perry stressed the United States’ continuing support to the stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and supported dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Iraq’s federal government.
Prime Minister Barzani considered the visit strong support to the people and government of the Kurdistan Region and expressed hope for further strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two sides.
He thanked the U.S. Government for its efforts to bring Erbil and Baghdad closer to establish mutual understanding. He expressed willingness of the Kurdistan Region to resolve differences with Baghdad, hoping that the United States will play a role in this regard.
“Both sides also praised the recent agreement between the KRG and Federal Government on resuming oil exports from Kirkuk as part of a continued, sustained effort to foster constructive ties with Iraq’s new government and increase shared revenue,” the statement continued.
Bilateral relations and the situation in the wider region were also discussed in the meeting.
