President Barzani and Secretary Pompeo Meet in Erbil

President Masoud Barzani received a United States government delegation headed by Mike Pompeo, the Secretary of State. During the meeting, President Barzani and Secretary Pompeo discussed a number of issues concerning the latest developments in the Region, Iraq and the Middle East region in general.

 

President Barzani and Secretary Pompeo stated that they are optimistic about the new Iraqi government insofar as bringing Erbil and Baghdad closer to one another and ensuring that the new government will focus on providing more public services to the people of Iraq.

 

Secretary Pompeo also made reference to the fact that the United States government acknowledges those who participated in the crucial battle against the terrorists of the Islamic State and that that collective effort was for the benefit of the entirety of the free world. The Peshmerga forces were a significant part of that global effort and thousands of them paid the ultimate sacrifice.
