Chancellor Masrour Barzani’s meeting with Patriarch of Antioch and All the East

Chancellor Masrour Barzani today received a high-level delegation led by His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II. In the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the situation in the Nineveh Plains and ways to promote the return of Christians and other religious groups to their ancestral homes. In that regard, Chancellor Barzani reaffirmed the commitment of the Kurdistan Region to Christian calls to manage their own affairs, including local security.

 

His Holiness expressed his personal appreciation for the aid given to Christian communities fleeing violence and persecution in recent years, and commended KRG’s efforts to strengthen co-existence through educational reforms and combating extremist ideology. Christian leaders from the Kurdistan Region and Iraq also attended the meeting, as well as KRG’s Director General for Christian Affairs Mr. Khalid Jamal Alber.
