President Barzani receives Russian Consul General in Kurdistan Region

President Masoud Barzani received, Oleg Levin, the Russian Consul General in Erbil. President Barzani thanked the Russian Foreign Minister and his deputy, and expressed appreciation for the positions of the Russian government on the issues of the people of Kurdistan. He also stated that “we value the historic relations between the people of Kurdistan and Russia, and always work to make it stronger”. He also wished success to the Russian consul and his deputies.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Russian consul general in Erbil passes the regards of Russian Foreign Minister and his deputy to President Barzani. Mr. Levin talked about the historical relations between the two sides and praised the role of Mustapha Barzani in deepening the relations between the people of Kurdistan and the Russian people. During the meeting Mr. Levin expressed his wish and plan in promoting relations between the two sides in all fields especially in the areas of energy, construction, education and culture. Furthermore, he praised the people of Kurdistan in defeating ISIS and fighting other extremist groups.

With regard to the war against terrorism, President Barzani stressed the pride of breaking the myth of ISIS and he mentioned that “our brave Peshmerga with our international partners were able to defeat the terrorist group and we need further cooperation to bring that evil ideology to an end”. The political situation in the region and the relations between Baghdad and Erbil was another focus of the meeting.
