Chancellor Masrour Barzani today received U.S. Major General Patrick Roberson of Operation Inherent Resolve.

During their meeting, they discussed progress in the anti-ISIL campaign in Iraq and Syria. On Iraq, both expressed concern about a recent uptick in ISIL attacks. They agreed that closer coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq on one hand and continued engagement from the Global Coalition on the other is crucial to preventing the return of terrorism. On Syria, Chancellor Barzani and Major General Roberson exchanged ideas to de-escalate tensions.

They also reviewed political developments in Iraq and other regional issues of bilateral importance.
