Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani meets with UN Envoy

Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and her accompanying delegation.

Prime Minister Barzani presented a brief overview of the the political situation, including the agreement among the Region’s political parties regarding the three presidencies - President of the Kurdistan Region, Speaker of the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament, and Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad and resolving the outstanding issues were discussed.

Ms. Hennis-Plasschaert welcomed the agreement among Kurdistan parties and the improvement of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.

They discussed the situation of the disputed areas, stressing the need for improved security with coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad so displaced people could return to their homes.

The situation of the greater region, including Syria and Iran, was also discussed.
