Barzani, UN Envoy Discuss Next KRG, Erbil-Baghdad Ties
A delegation from the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMI), led by head of the mission Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, visited Erbil where they met with Kurdish political leader and former president of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, to discuss the latest developments in the region.
On the preparations for electing the new president of Kurdistan Region, the UN envoy expressed optimism and encouraged acceleration of efforts to also form the new government of Kurdistan Region.
Barzani and Hennis-Plasschaert also discussed the progress in the relations between Erbil and Baghdad with the role of the UN to help both sides to address the remaining disputes.
Reviewing the security and administrative concerns in the areas contested between Erbil and Baghdad was also on the agenda.
