More than 170 children are yet to be found since they went missing during the Halabja chemical attack back in 1988, an official said.
On 16th March 1988, the Baath regime attacked Halabja in Kurdistan with chemical weapons and killed over 5,000 innocent people instantly. The attack also left more than 10,000 people injured.
Decades after the genocidal attack, 74 families are yet to find their children who went missing during the exodus of the people of Halabja after the attack.
Many of the children were lost while families escaped Halabja to Iran.
An event was organized in Halabja on Saturday to remember the missing children on the International Missing Children's Day.
Kamaran Mustafa, director of Halabja office for Martyrs and Anfal Affairs, told Kurdistan 24 that there was no official roadmap to search for the missing children of Halabja, and that those who have already returned are struggling with legal procedures to determine their biological families.
