Chain Bombings Rock Kirkuk, Several Casualties

At least six bomb explosions reportedly hit the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk on Thursday night, resulting in the killing of three, while 17 more were injured.

The six bomb blasts occurred within 20 to 30 minutes only, initial reports said, adding that they took place on Quds street, the governor’s office, and Baghdad Road.

According to the information BasNews has learned, improvised explosive devices (IED) as well as vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices detonated (VBIED) exploded.

Iraqi Security Media Cell, meanwhile, said that six IEDs went off while the security forces managed to defuse additional explosive devices.

No terrorist organizations or groups have so far claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the Islamic State (IS) has been behind such incidents in most cases.

The security forces have been dispatched to the area and are attempting to prevent further possible bomb explosions.

However, the number of casualties is yet to be confirmed by the relevant authorities, while security measures, including a curfew in the city, will possibly be taken.
