Erdogan Offers Congratulations to New President of Kurdistan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has offered congratulations to Nechirvan Barzani on his election as the new President of the Kurdistan Region.

Erdogan extended the congratulatory message during a phone call on Thursday evening in which he also expressed happiness for the election, wishing Barzani success in his new position.

The Turkish leader additionally reiterated his country's support to the Kurdistan Region and Barzani, inviting him officially to visit Ankara in the near future to better discuss the bilateral ties between the sides.

The new President of Kurdistan Region, in return, thanked Erdogan for his message, reaffirming Erbil's readiness to further strengthen the relations between the two sides.

Barzani won a total of 68 votes from the 81 lawmakers president in a parliamentary session on Tuesday.
