Arabs Burn Kurdish-owned Crops in Kirkuk and surrounding areas

A group of Arabs on Friday set a number of Kurdish-owned wheat lands on fire in the village of Palkana near Dubis in northwest of Kirkuk, an official confirmed.

The Arabs had already threatened to burn the agricultural fields if the Kurds refuse to share the harvest with them.

Hamad Amin Rozhbayani, a Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the region, said that a number of Arabs driving a Toyota-type car set fire to the farms in the village of Palkana.

He noted that numerous fields were burned on Friday and that the locals themselves were attempting to extinguish the fire without any help from any sides.

"The people of the area have become the guards of their own lands day and night, but this activity [burning the fields] is done easily within a few minutes," the official added.
