Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region: “Our borders with western Kurdistan are open and humanitarian aids continuous.”

The Prime Minister of Kurdistan-region Nechirvan Barzani announced in a press conference on Monday borders with western Kurdistan areas are open and humanitarian aids have continued to assist the Kurdish population in Syria. Mr Barzani explained that some media channels were demagogically broadcasting rumours of closing borders with western Kurdistan areas. The rumours are false and circulated for political purposes. Mr Barzani explained, "We, as the Kurdistan Regional Government, have only one border gate with Syria, which is Faysh Khabur and it is all water. We will try to build a bridge so that the humanitarian aids will easily be transported to the people there. However, our priority is to protect people of Kurdistan against any possible attacks that may occur on the borders. Although the borders between Iraq and Syria in Zumar are considered Kurdistan areas, they are run by the federal government and we cannot open or close them." Referring to Iraqi President Jalaal Talabani’s health, Mr Barzani said, "medical reports show that his health is stable, so we do not have anything to say about his successor and that any speech about this is immoral both politically and ethically." The Prime Minsiter reitrerated the Kurdistan-region’s stance on solving issues with the central government in Baghdad and to resolve the Kurdish ‘question’ in Syria and Turkey through dialogue and peaceful measures.
