Kurdistan President Tasks PM-Designate with Formation of KRG Cabinet

 Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday officially tasked Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister-designate, to form the new cabinet.

Masrour Barzani’s candidacy was approved by Kurdistan parliament a day earlier.

The new prime minister was nominated by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) which won the last election with 45 seats at the legislative.

Barzani will have 30 days now to form the new cabinet of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

A KDP senior member told the media earlier today that Barzani will soon embark on a round of talks with other political parties in preparation for his cabinet.

Masrour Barzani’s appointment as the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region was well received in the outside world after his successful tenure as the chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council.

Several international news agencies shed light on Barzani’s role in the war against the Islamic State (IS) since 2014.
