Masrour Barzani, German Delegation Discuss Trade and Investment

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister-designate Masrour Barzani received a German diplomatic delegation headed by Martin Jäger, the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, with whom he reviewed the latest developments in the region and the relations between Erbil and Berlin.

Barzani praised the role of Germany in providing military and training assistance to the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan during the war against the Islamic State (IS).

“In the meeting attended by outgoing Ambassador to Iraq Cyrill Nunn, both sides agreed to appoint working teams to discuss practical measures to promoting stronger trade and investment ties between Germany, Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” according to the readout of the meeting.

Barzani placed particular emphasis on his vision to diversify the local economy, promote foreign investment and reduce bureaucracy for citizens and businesses alike.

He also reflected on the stable security conditions in the Kurdistan Region as a national asset and cornerstone of political and economic stability.

Latest developments in Iraq, Syria, and wider region was also on the agenda
