Special Representative of the United Nations in the Kurdistan Region visits Kurdistan Democratic Party Office of Foreign Relations

The Head of the Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP-FRO), receive Mr. Ricardo Rodkis, Head of the Office of the Special Representative of the United Nations in the Kurdistan Region UNAMI. At the beginning of the meeting, which took place on the afternoon of Sunday 1/7/2019, the latest events and developments in the region were discussed, including the meeting of the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq with the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) delegation during their visit to Baghdad and meeting with the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, in order to find solutions to outstanding problems between the two sides. During the meeting, Mr. Siwaily stressed the need to work on resolving the outstanding problems through the implementation of the Constitution, and the need for all parties concerned to implement the Constitution, because it is considered the best and most appropriate solutions available.

As Mr. Swaily pointed out, Mr. Adel Abdul Mahdi, the Iraqi Prime Minister, seeks to make the Constitution the basis for resolving the outstanding problems. This is the first time in the past 15 years. The Iraqi Prime Minister is making an effort to resolve outstanding problems. On the other side of the meeting, the internal situation of the Kurdistan Region was discussed, including the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the impact of this on creating a more stable and reassuring atmosphere, in all respects, for the citizens of the region.

He also referred to the reasons for the visit of the President of the Region, Mr. Nechirvan Barzani to Baghdad and Turkey, which was aimed at reaching more understandings with them on a number of issues of common concern, as well as strengthening political and economic relations.

 At the end of the meeting, Mr. Ricardo thanked the receptionist and hospitality and expressed his pleasure at the progress made in the Kurdistan Region, confirming their support and permanent assistance within the framework of their mandate entrusted to them by the United Nations.
