Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has reaffirmed his support for the religious freedom in the autonomous region "and beyond."
"On the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, we reiterate that the Kurdistan Region will remain a safe haven for those who flee persecution, as we continue to protect and promote religious freedom in Kurdistan and beyond," Barzani wrote on Twitter.
Although Muslims constitute the majority of the public in the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has been successful in preserving the rights of all distinct religious groups in the region.
Apart from Muslims, the Yezidis, Christians, and other religious minority groups, live peacefully in the Kurdistan Region.
