Statement of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region on the 31st anniversary of the notorious Anfal campaign in Badinan.

Today, we recall the Anfal campaign in the area of ​​Badinan, which came within the notorious Anfal campaign, carried out by the Baathist regime in 1988, targeting civilians in the Kurdistan Region, during which more than 180 thousand citizens in Kurdistan were martyred, and thousands of villages were destroyed.

 

Anfal of Badinan was the last stage of the Anfal campaign, which lasted from August 25 to September 6, 1988.Each region included Badinan and the campaign included the implementation of chemical weapons strikes and the arrest, killing, displacement and demolition of mosques, monasteries, villages and areas of Badinan by five military divisions. Survivors of the campaign have taken refuge in Iran and Turkey and have been scattered in various countries.

 

While we pay tribute to the memory of the martyrs of Anfal of Badinan and all the martyrs of Kurdistan, we demand once again the Iraqi government, under the decision of the Iraqi High Criminal Court, which considers the Anfal campaigns a crime against humanity, genocide and war crime, to implement its legal and moral duty and compensate the victims of Anfal. Providing more services to the victims of Anfal and taking the fate of the disappeared is one of its priorities.
