Sinjar: PKK, Hashd al-Shaabi's Presence Affect Return of IDPs

The presence of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias in Sinjar has affected the return of the IDPs to the region, an official said on Tuesday.

Qadir Qachakh, a Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) representative to the area, told BasNews that, apart from the fact that the two armed groups have caused lack of stability in the region, the people also suffer from the deteriorated situation of public services and stability in Sinjar.

The Shia militias, in the meantime, have spread religious logos and flags among the people of the Yezidi majority populated region of Sinjar.

The Kurdistan Region and Iraq should reach an agreement to stabilize the deteriorated situation in Sinjar and help the IDPs return to their places of origin, he concluded.
