UK Wants a Strong and Stable Kurdistan Region: Envoy

The United Kingdom wants the Kurdistan Region to be strong and stable, said James Thornton, the new British Consul General to Erbil.

The diplomat met with prominent Kurdish leader and the president of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Masoud Barzani on Monday.

They discussed the latest political developments in Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and exchanged views on the current situation in Kirkuk and across other territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.

Bilateral ties between Kurdistan Region and the UK were also on the agenda, according to the readout of the meeting.
