A delegation representing, the British Trade Union, UNITE THE UNION visits the Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party

Mr. Hoshyar Siwaily, Head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office, received Mr. Simon Dobbins, Head of International relations of the British Trade Union (Unite the Union) and his accompanying delegation.  Unite the Union is one of the largest and most influential Unions in Britain. 

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Siwaily thanked the delegation for their visit to the Foreign Relations Office and the support and assistance provided by Britain since 1991. He hoped that the Union would play a more active role in supporting the Trade Unions in Kurdistan and building bridges of communication between the Kurdish and British civil society organizations. In another aspect of the meeting, they exchanged views on the latest events and developments on the Iraqi and Kurdistan political arena, especially the relations of the Kurdistan Region with the Federal Government, and the Region’s endeavors to resolve the outstanding problems between Erbil and the federal government in Baghdad in accordance with the Iraqi constitution.

Head of the KDP-FRO also made brief remarks about some important junctures of the Kurdish and KDP histories, the ISIS war, financial difficulties caused by the war and the existence of large numbers of refugees and IDPs in Kurdistan Region Of Iraq (KRI). The current regional tensions, the creation of a safe zone in North East Syria and the ongoing threat by ISIS were among other issues discussed. 

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Simon expressed his admiration and appreciation for the Region's economic, social and political developments, and stressed his country's continued support to the people and government of the Kurdistan Region and the Union’s willingness to support efforts to strengthen the labor movement and non-governmental organizations in the Region, wishing more progress and prosperity for the people of the Kurdistan Region.
