President Barzani Receives Indian State Minister

President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani received Vellamvelly Muraleedharan, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, and his accompanying delegation.

In the meeting, President Barzani presented a brief overview of the political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Indian labour force in Kurdistan, and investment potentials in Kurdistan.

President Barzani stressed the need to further strengthening of ties with India.

Minister Muraleedharan congratulated President Barzani on his election as the President of the Kurdistan Region and conveyed Indian President and Prime Minister’s regards. He also commended the sacrifices made by the people of Kurdistan in the fight against terrorism and his country’s willingness to strengthen bilateral relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Both sides also discussed the prospect of direct flights between the Kurdistan Region and India, cooperation in combating terrorism, and the ceremony of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Erbil.
