The Kurdistan Region has received several more IDP families after the Iraqi government's decision to close a number of camps in Nineveh province.
The Iraqi Council of Minister issued a decree earlier this month to close several IDP camps in the province of Nineveh, a move which forced the civilians to leave the sites and find refugee elsewhere.
Rashid Darwesh, a director at the camps of Khazir and Hassansham, revealed to Kurdistan 24 that more than 150 IDP families have arrived at the camps in 20 days alone.
Aysha, who is an elderly woman and one of the displaced civilians, explained to the report that she, along with her family, had tried all the camps in Salahaddin and other surrounding areas until they finally found refuge at the Hassansham camp after the Namrood Camp was closed by the federal government.
"With mistreatment from the Shia [Hashd al-Shaabi] militias and lack of services and security in Mosul, we cannot go back," Aysha added.
