Visit of the Deputy Commander of the Italian forces in the Kurdistan Region to the Foreign Relations Office

Hoshyar Siwaily, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office (KDP-FRO), received a delegation of Italian military advisors, led by Mr. Olympi  Atello, deputy commander of the Italian forces of the international coalition against ISIS in Kurdistan region.

 

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the causes and reason that led to the emergence of ISIS and the dangers of this organization on civilians in general and the Kurdistan region in particular. Mr. Siwaily expressed his thanks and gratitude to the international coalition forces, especially the Italian forces for their military support of the Peshmerga forces, which was helpful to defeat ISIS and lead to victories. Despite the defeat of ISIS in those areas, the idea of ​​terror and intimidation still dominates those areas that are not free from the fears that ISIS has cultivated in the minds of some cities. In addition to the lack of services and security, that led to the delay of the return of displaced people to their areas of origin for fear of the return of terrorist and other radical and ideological group .

 

On the other hand, the deputy commander of the Italian forces thanked the opportunity and expressed his admiration and appreciation for the courage of the Peshmerga forces and the people of the Kurdistan Region, who managed with determination and their ability to defeat the Islamic State of ISIS and the preservation of the territory of the Kurdistan Region. At the end of the meeting, the two sides called for the need to communicate and work on the continuity of relations to serve the interests of both sides.
