Kurdish leader and the president of ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, received the Greek Ambassador to Iraq Leonidas Kontovounesios on Sunday in Erbil.
During the meeting, according to a readout, ambassador Kontovounesios praised Barzani for his leadership throughout the challenges faced by the region in the past few decades.
He also commended the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan for playing a key role in the war against the Islamic State (IS) after 2014.
Discussing the large Kurdish diaspora in Greece as a strong cultural tie between the two nations, Barzani and Kontovounesios welcomed the efforts to further develop the relations between Erbil and Athens in every area of potential cooperation.
