President Masoud Barzani, with Ayad Allawi, head of the Iraqi National Alliance, have reaffirmed their support to PM Adil Abdul Mahdi and his cabinet.
Barzani held a meeting with Allawi on Monday in Kurdistan Region's capital Erbil, where they discussed the recent developments in Iraq, both sides agreeing that only a constitutional and democratic mechanism is acceptable to change the Iraqi political process.
"Had a fruitful meeting with @AyadAllawi today where we discussed the principle of not allowing political changes in Iraq to occur outside of the framework of the Iraqi Constitution," Barzani wrote on Twitter.
They also reiterated their support to the current cabinet of Abdul Mahdi, urging the Iraqi premier to spare no efforts to provide stability, bring the situation under control, and punish corrupt people and those who have caused "bloodshed of innocent people."
"Furthermore, we both reiterated our support for Iraq's current PM, @AdilAbdAlMahdi," Barzani added.
The two leaders additionally called for the protection of the dignity of the Iraqi people, including all components, and for collaborations between the sides in all areas.
Barzani and Allawi also expressed condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in clashes between the protesters and security forces in the past few days, wishing a quick recovery for the wounded.
The Iraqi people have taken to the streets since Tuesday, protesting against the poor public services, corruption, and unemployment. As a result of the ongoing clashes, over 100 people have so far been killed, while nearly 6,000 others were wounded.
