Barzani, French Envoy Meet to Discuss Syrian Kurdistan

Kurdish leader and President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, received on Wednesday the French Consul General in Erbil Olivier Decottignies to discuss the situation of Kurds in Syria.

Barzani called on France to play a major role in preventing any possible disasters from occuring to the Kurdish people in Syria in case of any security escalations in the region while Turkey has begun an operation in northeastern parts of the country.

Both sides expressed concerns over the recent developments in Syria which would affect the Kurds in the country.

They further exchanged views on the political process in Iraq, including the ongoing public demonstrations against the government.
