Several dozens of Kurds gathered on Sunday to rain flowers over the French Consulate in Erbil, the capital city of Kurdistan Region.
The symbolic move was organized to thank the French government and people for their support to the Kurdish people throughout the hard times.
Head of Peace Organization handed over a letter of gratitude to President Emmanuel Macron.
French Consul General Olivier Decottignies received the letter and promised to deliver it to the president.
France is among the friend nations of Kurdistan Region. It played a key role in establishing the significant no-fly zone in 1991 to protect the Kurds against Saddam Hussein. France also was a major mediator to help the Erbil and Baghdad ease the political and military tensions in 2017 after Kurdistan Region’s independence referendum.
