President Masoud Barzani, EU Envoy Discuss Latest Regional Developments

Kurdish prominent leader and former President of the Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, received on Tuesday the new European Union ambassador to Iraq Martin Huth to discuss a range of subjects.

Barzani and Huth, during their meeting in Kurdistan Region's capital Erbil, shed light on the recent developments in the Syrian Kurdistan, where Turkey has begun an offensive against the Kurds since Wednesday, with the Kurdish leader expressing concerns over the future of the Kurdish people in the Middle Eastern country.

The pair additionally exchanged views on the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, on which, the EU envoy welcomed the progress in the discussions between the sides to solve the remaining disputes.

He also commended the role of Barzani and the Kurdistan Region in hosting nearly two million IDPs and Syrian refugees in the past few years, while playing a major role in defeating the Islamic State (IS) in the region.

Barzani, in return, congratulated Huth on his new service in Iraq, while stressing on the major factors behind the recent developments in the Syrian Kurdistan.
