Role of Kurds in Defeating IS Cannot Be Ignored: Barzani

Kurdish leader and president of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, received the French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Friday at the Barzani Headquarter.

During the meeting, Barzani and Le Drian discussed the latest developments in the region, including the situation in Syrian Kurdistan.

Barzani emphasized that the Kurdish forces have played a crucial role in the battles to defeat the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria, and that cannot be ignored.

“The Foreign Minister and I discussed the recent events in Syria and spoke of the crucial role of the Kurds in defeating the threat of the terrorists of the Islamic State and how that fact cannot be ignored,” the Kurdish leader wrote on Twitter.

Le Drian held separate meetings with Kurdistan Region president and prime minister earlier after he visited Baghdad the day before.
