The Director of Intelligence and Security of the Kurdistan-region Masrour Barzani received the Australian Ambassador to Iraq Ms Lyndall Sachs and the First Secretary of Australia Embassy in Iraq Mr Thomas Carroll. Ambassador Sachs initially expressed her delight on Kurdistan’s secure stability; hoping areas in Iraq can be reconstructed with similar developments and economic opportunities to ascend. Tensions between the Kurdistan-region and the central government in Baghdad were discussed in their meeting. Mr Barzani stated such tensions are derived from the temperament of the ruling party and the on-going untrustworthiness among difference political groups. He added that tensions could be resolved when all parties in Iraq can reach agreements to live liberally, and constant threats and maltreatment by authorities should cease to exist. Mr Barzani stressed on the latest advances of the Kurdistan-region, appreciating the will of the people in developing democracy and eradicating extremism. He states that the upcoming changes in the region should not digress from their rights and should aim at bringing peace. The two sides emphasised on improving bilateral relations. Ms Sachs states that Australia tends to have an active role in the economic market of Kurdistan, adding to establish relations between the universities, participating in different industrial sectors and assistance in reconstructing the region.
