Mr Siwaily conveyed greetings from President Masoud Barzani to the Congress and the leader of CDU. She is a great CDU leader and will be a great Chancellor in the near future. During the conference the head of the KDP-FRO met Paul Ziemiak, the CDU General Secretary and Ralph Brinkhaus, Head of the CDU block at the Federal Parliament.
The CDU under the former Leader Angela Merkel and the Current Leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has developed close relations with Kurdistan Democratic Party. The German government led by Chancellor Merkel has been a strong supporter of Kurdistan Region over the past 15 years and their assistance, in terms of the provision of military capacity building to our Peshmerga forces and the supply of crucial weapons including Rifles, machine guns and anti-tank systems, played an important role in fighting and defeating ISIS.
During the CDU Congress, we met the German Deputy Defence Minister, Dr Peter Tauber. He is no stranger to the Kurds and Kurdistan Region as he has accompanied the present and former ministers of Defence to Kurdistan Region on a number of occasions. The former Defence Minister, Ursula von der Leyen, who was a great supporter of Kurdistan during the war against ISIS, has now become the president of the European Commission replacing Jean-Claude Juncker. Siwaily of behalf of KDP wished her success and are looking forward to having more cooperation in her new post in the future.
Final day of the conference KDP delegation had the opportunity to briefly meet Monica Grutters, the Federal Government Commissioner for Cultural and the Media.she is also a member of the CDU Federal Executive Board.
