Kurdistan President Visits Sulaymaniyah to Build Consensus Among Kurdistani Factions

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani visited Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday where he met with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) leaderships as part of his initiative to build consensus among the Kurdistani political parties in the face of Iraqi politics.

After meeting with Gorran leader, Omar Said Ali, at the party’s headquarter, Barzani was received by Kosrat Rasoul, PUK’s deputy secretary general.

The Kurdish president told reporters after concluding his meetings that unity among the political parties from Kurdistan Region was vital for a secure future.

“Our top priority is to build consensus and an alliance of Kurdistani [parties] in Baghdad because we will achieve nothing if each party works on its own,” Barzani said.

He welcomed the progress in Erbil-Baghdad negotiations to address their prolonged disputes, saying that Erbil is optimistic about a solution and it will continue the negotiations over budget and oil.
