Kurdistan President to Meet with KIG and KIU Leaderships

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani will meet with the leaderships of the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) and the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) on Wednesday as part of his efforts to build consensus among the Kurdistani factions.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani visited Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) headquarter in Erbil where he met with the party’s leader Ali Bapir on Tuesday. The Kurdish president reportedly discussed the latest political developments in Kurdistan and Iraq.

He was accompanied by Vice Presidents Mustafa Said Qader and Jafaar Mustafa during his meeting.The Kurdish president traveled to Sulaymaniyah a day earlier to meet with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) leaderships.

He said later that his meetings with the political parties is an initiative to unify the political factions for a shared goal on Baghdad’s political arena. He will later head to the KIU's headquarters in the capital city.

The Kurdish president on Tuesday visited Sulaimaniya province and held meetings separately with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) leaderships.

"Our top priority is to build consensus and an alliance of Kurdistani [parties] in Baghdad because we will achieve nothing if each party works on its own," Barzani said at a press conference.
