Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has made it clear that their priority is only to serve the people and not "the other way around."
"I've made it very clear. We are not here to impose ideas on people. We are here to serve people. We want to build a stronger Kurdistan Region," Barzani said in a statement on his Twitter account.
Barzani's message comes while his cabinet has been successful in improving the ties with the Iraqi federal government, the last step of which was reaching a deal with Iraq on the issues of oil and budget.
"We definitely are looking at opening up to the world. Diversifying our economy," the Kurdish premier continued. "Repairing the relations with Baghdad."
He further stressed on his plans for reforms and noted that "of course we have to do reforms, and we have started those reforms."
"People must trust and have confidence in their government. They need to feel respected by the representatives in the government. They need to feel that the government is there to protect and serve them."
