PM Barzani, Qatari FM Discuss Regional Security, Bilateral Trade Ties

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received on Wednesday Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the regional security and trade ties.

"I received Qatar’s Deputy PM and FM @MBA_AlThani_ today to discuss regional security issues of shared concern, and how we can improve bilateral trade links," Barzani wrote on Twitter.

Concerning the recent developments in Iraq and the wider region, the pair called for the de-escalation of tensions, urging all sides to preserve peace and security in the Middle East, Barzani's office said in a statement.

"Prime Minister Barzani affirmed that renewed conflict and instability will undo the significant progress achieved in the reconstruction of Iraq," the statement continued.

Meanwhile, they also exchanged views on Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) reform agenda "to modernise and diversify the regional economy, Prime Minister Barzani emphasised that the KRG is committed to making Kurdistan an attractive destination for investors."

"Minister al-Thani recognized the economic opportunities presented by the Kurdistan Region for Qatari investors and praised the KRG for its efforts in promoting economic growth and stability."

The Qatari envoy also stressed on his country's desire to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the sides, "particularly in relation to trade."
