11-Year-Old Yezidi Girl Reunites with Family in Kurdistan

An 11-year-old Yezidi girl, after years in the captivity of the Islamic State (IS) in Syria, successfully reunited with her family members in the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday.

She was identified as Malak, who had been abducted alongside her mother and brother in Sinjar by the IS group back in 2014, when the jihadists attacked the Yezidi majority populated region, according to Kurdistan 24.

Malak was living in al-Hol camp in Syria before she was returned to her family based in an IDP camp in the Kurdistan Region's Duhok province.

Apart from her mother and brother, who were reportedly killed in an airstrike in Syria, the fate of several of the 19 members of her family kidnapped by the insurgents, is not known yet.
