On the meetings he held in Munich with world leaders, PM Barzani said the international community recognizes the key role of the Kurdistan Region in the regional politics, and Erbil is needed to continue as a main actor in the neighborhood to help de-escalation of the current tensions.
The Kurdish leader reiterated that the Islamic State (IS) remains a serious threat to the region and the world, and that the engagement of the United States and the Global Coalition is still needed to counter this threat and eradicate the terrorist group.
In line with this, he pointed out, the root causes which led to the emergence of IS should be addressed. PM Barzani emphasized that improving people’s life, developing the region’s economy, and strengthening political stability in the neighborhood are crucial to prevent IS from resurgence.
