Kurdish security forces in Kurdistan Region's Garmiyan area clashed with Islamic State (IS) jihadists on Tuesday, during which they also captured three senior members of the insurgent group.
Head of the Directorate of Security in Kifri, Othman Mohammed, told BasNews that they carried out an operation against the jihadists in the region as the group's movements have lately increased.
"Clashes erupted between the security forces and the militants of Daesh," he said, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State.
He further noted that they conducted the operation in the areas of Palkana and Dariya, where they managed to arrest three members of the extremist group.
"Two of the militants were Emirs," Mohammed said. "Unfortunately one of the Kurdish security personnel was injured."
