At a time when the patriotic Iraqi political forces and all Iraqi components are heading towards forming a strong national government capable of confronting the enormous challenges facing the Iraqi state, at this critical time that requires everyone to unite in order to face these challenges and safeguard the country’s future, we hear a cacophony of calls trying to mislead people and divert attention from the primary goal of the next government, which is to restrict weapons to the state and remove all forms of illegal and non constitutional military presence by referring to the inclusion of Peshemrga in the alleged attempts to restrict weapons to the state.
While we declare our support for the steps and measures taken by the Federal Government aimed at achieving this goal on the path to building a civilized democratic state in which the constitution, law and citizenship prevail, we say to those who try to block this correct and necessary step with their irresponsible statements, you have to distinguish between the Peshemrga, as a legitimate military force which was established in accordance with the text of Article 121/V of the Constitution after decades of struggle against dictatorship and great sacrifices for the cause of Kurdish Nation and the Iraqi State, and the outlawed groups that wreaked corruption on earth and violated the sanctity of the state and society. They act unlawfully as a state within a state with no gaol or concern other than to serve their narrow interests and implement suspicious foreign agendas.
Those who don’t know Peshemrga should review the history to know that Peshemrga is the fate of the Kurdish Nation and it is a red line. It was and will remain a fortified fort and a defender of the security and stability of Kurdistan Region. It is part of the constitutional Iraqi armed forces and that any governmental measures that seek to confine arms to the state must take this into consideration far from insinuations of those who don't know history.
